Experimental Brine

So it's 10:00pm the night before Thanksgiving and I decided to get gutsy and experiment with our turkey. My Dad is into Alton Brown and decided to follow his advice to brine his turkey. Then I saw Rachel Ray do a show about making a brine and I decided to give it a try. I read somewhere online that if you didn't have a pot large enough and you were running low on fridge space due to all the other holiday goodies to wash out a produce drawer and wa-la...you have a cold "pot" to hold the turkey overnight w/out taking up more shelf space. I thought it was an ingenious idea and jumped on board.

I took about 3 brine recipes and mixed different parts of it...so although my turkey looks like it's sitting in a pot of pee...well it does...it's actually a mixture of kosher salt, sugar, brown sugar, and fresh rosemary and sage. I'm soaking it overnight and then I'll roast it tomorrow in the traditional fashion...supposedly it should make for a very juicy and flavorful bird. I invited this girl over and her family for dinner and she is always looking for good blog fodder so maybe my turkey will give her something to write about...especially if it's awful! Let's hope not, I have a pretty good track record.
