Congrats to the Red Wings
Last night the Wings clenched the Stanley Cup with a win over Pittsburgh. My brother, who still lives in Michigan, is a huge wings fan. I watched the game in his honor.
We went to a small Christian High School with #28 Brian Rafalski (pictured here) so it is fun to see him playing for the wings and having so much success!

I'm honored to be honored! Last night, I was definitely glued to the TV. I tried to get Aya up when they won to see them skate with the cup, but she was a total zombie.
Most people, even in Detroit, don't realize what an epic moment we're witnessing. An 84-year history with eleven Stanley Cups (most of any American team), four of them in the last eleven years.
In addition to these ultimate victories, they've made the playoffs for seventeen consecutive years--the record for any pro-sports franchise. This despite the fact that the team has gone through at least four distinct era (the Russians, the Yzerman era, the Hall of Famers, and now the post-salary cap Swedish era). When we went from being an $80 million dollar salary team to $40 million after the strike/cap, people wrote the Wings off. This year we were not picked by anyone to win.
Keep in mind hockey players play three grueling games a week. The Wings played 104 games before last night's win. The season spans September to June. Bottom-line: it's hard to find much more raw athleticism or a test of physical endurance than in the NHL.
In a city where the Lions are perennial losers, and the Tigers and Pistons swing manically between disaster and delight, much credit goes to the front office (Illitchs, Devalano, and Holland) for their consistent judgment and leadership.
Way more than you EVER wanted to hear about hockey, but there it is. I'm glad Lord Stanley's 35lbs. chalice is pack plying the streets of Detroit for the next year once again with a new set of Red Wings' names engraved on its side!
