Getting Ready for School

We took our first step towards getting ready for school...haircuts. Brooke has been a little unpredictable in her past hair cutting appointments, but today she was awesome!

She got the most cut off, about 4 inches!

Just a trim for Mckenna...believe it or not she still has spots that we're working on evening out from when she cut her own hair almost two years ago!

Baileigh got about 3 inches cut off but its harder to tell with her long hair...she didn't want any more cut.
Couldn't resist creating a picture out of this...the girls were actually drying their hair...this isn't the traditional way but they asked the stylist if they could try them and she was a good sport. She even suggested they cross their legs for the photo while I grabbed magazines.
The best part of the event...the suckers afterwards!

5 months old

On Thursday Morgan was 5 months old. There is so much I can say about this sweet girl...she is an amazing baby! Although she is developing her opinions and becoming a little more vocal about it...she continues to be good natured and easy going. Despite not really having a schedule thanks to being the baby of four...she naps and eats well and sleeps roughly 12 hours at night!

My 6 year old with my 5 month old! Morgan is extremely loved by her sisters!
She has big beautiful blue eyes and is extremely inquisitive about her surroundings!

Turning 6...Party #2

Our second half of Mckenna's birthday celebration was a trip to NJ to visit friends. We spent Friday afternoon in downtown Baltimore at the children's museum.
We spent the remainder of our drive to NJ laughing at Morgan and all the ways we could make her look silly. She is very entertaining to her three sisters at this age!
Friday afternoon we arrived in NJ greeted by a downpour. Late in the evening it cleared up and our friends kindly built a wet fire so that Mckenna could roast smores which was one of her requests.
Mckenna and Baileigh with the King girls...Emma and Lila.
A very happy girl with a mouthful of smores!

Saturday was supposed to be a beach day but Hurricane Bill had other plans. We had to make a decision and the vote was to spend the afternoon at a place with roller skating, indoor bouncy things and a huge indoor playground. Of course, it cleared up at the beach for a few hours but oh well! Mckenna seemed just as happy as happy as she was with the beach idea.

Brook was initially excited to skate and then changed her mind. It was a long, painful lap around the rink...I love this picture, look at Brad's expression and Brooke's face.

We cooled off at Sonic's Happy Hour after the skating fun. Sonic is new to NJ and all the rage...it cracks Brad up since Sonic is old news in TX and you can find one on every corner.

While the rain took a break we enjoyed an hour in our friend's pool...they were at the shore but told us to enjoy their pool. Thanks Russells! Our time was cut short as we began to hear a bunch of thunder, but the girl's still had fun.

The birthday hat even made it to NJ!

Mckenna saw the "Cupcake Cake" on a TV infomercial and requested it for her birthday. She also asked to have it decorated with gumballs that she could have afterwards. She was pretty excited when she saw the cake, complete with Melissa's decorative handy work.

After cake the kids all got in the hot tube...until lightening and thunder ended our fun again. Essentially whenever we decided to do something outside it would beginSunday morning we attended our old church and enjoyed lunch afterwards with several of the families from our former mini church. Eleven adults and thirteen kids...fun lunch! And of course, Mckenna my clown had to entertain them all by putting pizza dough on her face! Lovely. I guess turning 6 doesn't mean she is any less silly.

We had a wonderful weekend. There were tears on the way home...we're just thankful for great friends and that we're close enough to visit.

Turning 6...Party #1

Yesterday Mckenna turned 6!!! That is so hard for me to believe. When I asked her what she would like to do for her birthday she said she wanted to go to NJ and see our old church friends and go to the beach and have smores in their fire pit. I thought it sounded like a great idea so that is where we're headed tomorrow...with a stop in Baltimore tomorrow at the Children's Museum.

Mckenna was in charge of our day on Wednesday. We started off with presents...and of course she had to wear the official family birthday hat!
Thanking her sister for her present.
We took a trip to the toy store...very overwhelming for a 6 year old to make a decision!
We were supposed to go to the pool for the afternoon but the rain had other plans so we stayed at home and played with our new toys andfun with some friends.
In the evening we met Daddy for dinner at Red Robin and were entertained by Brooke's lime sucking show.
Mckenna was thrilled and embarrassed when they sang Happy Birthday.
Enjoying her sundae.
I love Mckenna's face in this picture...I don't believe she was posing at all, just really enjoying her dessert!
We had a very fun day celebrating Mckenna and I can't wait to do it again this weekend with friends!

Musical Philosophy

I had a great talk in the car with the girls today. The conversation was as a result of the lyrics of this song. The video below isn't the strongest but the point is clear...and I watched it with the girls tonight and we talked about the lyrics again...I hope and pray they remember its message in the future.

Little girl fourteen flipping through a magazine
Says she wants to look that way
But her hair isn’t straight her body isn’t fake
And she’s always felt overweight

Well little girl fourteen I wish that you could see
That beauty is within your heart
And you were made with such care your skin your body and your hair
Are perfect just the way they are

There could never be a more beautiful you
Don’t buy the lies disguises and hoops they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you

Little girl twenty-one the things that you’ve already done
Anything to get ahead
And you say you’ve got a man but he’s got another plan
Only wants what you will do instead

Well little girl twenty-one you never thought that this would come
You starve yourself to play the part
But I can promise you there’s a man whose love is true
And he’ll treat you like the jewel you are

There could never be a more beautiful you
Don’t buy the lies disguises and hoops they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you

So turn around you’re not too far
To back away be who you are
To change your path go another way
It’s not too late you can be saved
If you feel depressed with past regrets
The shameful nights hope to forget
Can disappear they can all be washed away
By the one who’s strong can right your wrongs
Can rid your fears dry all your tears
And change the way you look at this big world
He will take your dark distorted view
And with His light He will show you truth
And again you’ll see through the eyes of a little girl
